Pets

A portrait of my pets. Roughly translates as "Our animals are probably bizarre".
To be honest, I think the word 'probably' is very generous.

Tortoises

Another tortoise story, this time about (possibly less poetically), sticky tape.

Wick

All the flowers are springing up and the sun is out. One of my favourite scenes from "The Secret Garden" is where Mary and Dickon explore the garden, finding out which plants are alive, or 'wick'.
"It's as wick as you or me," he said; and Mary remembered that Martha had told her that "wick" meant "alive" or "lively."  "I'm glad it's wick!" she cried out in her whisper. "I want them all to be wick. Let us go round the garden and count how many wick ones there are."

Dick Bruna and Escher

Two of my absolute favourite artists are Escher and Dick Bruna.
When in Holland a few years ago, I visited both museums and it only strengthened my respect for them. A few months later, as a birthday card for my mum, I drew this tribute to them both.

The Escher museum  is found in The Hague, and is a former palace, with an amazing (and I mean, AMAZING) collection of modern chandeliers.

The Dick Bruna museum is in Utrecht, which is frankly the prettiest city I've ever been to.

Tiffany Aching

I did some mock covers for one of my favourite book series, Terry Pratchett's 'Tiffany Aching' books. Proof that it is possible to write YA fiction brilliantly. These are respectively the second and fourth in the series: "A Hat Full of Sky" and "I shall wear Midnight"

Spring flowers

Springtime has come to our garden - the cherry blossom tree is in full flower and the orchids are doing amazingly! Just stunning. Of course, the bees are in seventh heaven.

Pen and Ink

Pen and ink is a lot of fun to use, but requires a lot of patience. And a steady hand.

Detectives

Did you know I really love detective stories? I do. I have read every single Agatha Christie and there is one conclusion I have come to.

...It is very rarely the butler.

Birds in spring!

Lovely, lovely wrens! The best thing about spring is seeing all the birds out and about again.

The long suffering friend...

Staging a play at home always means you have to make do with the cast you can find.

Lucy

My father's cat, Lucy, is my chosen drawing model of all time. She is what you would get if you crossed a slinky with an otter. And cheeky to boot.

Welcome!
